Saturday, July 29, 2017 Location of Festival: Parking will be available at the Medical Building on 3rd Street, across from the Temple at 420 E. 3rd Street, Los Angeles, CA 90013. The lot entrance is on Boyd Street. Cost: RSVP and Questions: The Obon Festival features food, games, farmers market, flower market, tea ceremony demonstrations, traditional Bon Odori dancing, and various types of entertainment for kids and adults. Cultural performances/exhibitions begin at 1:30 pm featuring hereandnow and Lumbini Child Development Center Kids, Halau Hula "A" Ala Anuhea, Kinnara Taiko, Erica Nagashima, Bombu/Kitsune Taiko, and happyfunsmile. Manto-E services will begin at 5:30 pm. The tradition of Manto-e during the Obon Festival is to light the sky with "ten thousand lanterns," originating about 1,200 years ago. Manto-e lanterns can be offered in memory of a departed love one. Bon Odori dancing will begin at 6:30 pm. Obon is a traditional event to honor and express gratitude to the spirits of our ancestors, those before us who provided us with the gift of life.
